Prime Minister Hun Sen and CPP Party always celebrate January 17 as the important day that Vietnamese troupe deliberated Khmer People from Khmer Rouge Genocide.
For example, if we look at the history, we know quiet well. If Khmer Rouge did not attack Vietnam, Vietnamese troupe would not invade Cambodia. Then the genocide in Cambodia would be disappeared. No one would not know about the genocide at all. Probably, all the Khmer People would be executed by Khmer rouge. The new generation of Khmer people would be decending from Chinese. Cambodia would become China.
Who did create Khmer Rouge? Vietnamese created Khmer rouge to take over Cambodia in 1975 with the help of King Norodom Sihanouk. If King Norodom Sihanouk did not help the Khmer Rouge and the Vietcong, Khmer rouge would not have a chance to take over Cambodia in 1975.
I would say thank you to Vietnamese troupe to deliberate Cambodia in 1979 from Khmer Rouge genocide, but I don't thank to Vietnamese Communist that intended to invade Cambodia and wanted to control Cambodia.
We can't afford to lose more land and city to Vietnam. We can repay Vietnam in money or trade. For example, now a day, Hun Sen signed off more land to Vietnam. This is not right. We can be good friend with Vietnam, but we can't give land to Vietnam, because land is very important to our society and our country. If we have no land, we have no country. For example, like Khmer Krom, we lost Khmer Krom to Vietnam. If we want it back and ask Vietnam to sell it to us for trillion of dollar, Vietnam would say no.
So we should celebrate January 17 as the day of freedom from genocide and a friendship
with our neighbor Vietnam if Vietnam become a democratic country. If Vietnam is not democratic country, we won't celebrate January 17 at all. Cambodia won't have peace if
Vietnam is still running by dictatorship communist leaders. For now, Khmer people should not celebrate January 17. We should wait until Veitnam become a democratic country, then we should celebrate January 17 as a thank you for Vietnamese troupe for their sacrify.
