Police said that they suspect the Friday slaying of Khun Srey Mom, wife of Secretary of State Khay Khun Heng at Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, is more complex than a simple robbery, the Cambodia Daily reported in Phnom Penh on Tuesday.
Witness and police said initially that the killing took place during a robbery, but Phnom Penh Police Chief Touch Naruth said on Monday that many questions remained unanswered.
"We still have no leads or more details of the facts," Touch Naruth said.
Forty-year-old Khun Srey Mom, who was also sister of Minister of Cults and Religious Affairs Khun Haing, was shot in the leg and either thrown or fell from a third floor window at the TV9 television station in Phnom Penh's Tuol Kok district after a masked intruder entered the room where she lived at the station.
"We still wonder why she fell out the window," Touch Naruth said, adding that there is "a deeper complexity".
Khay Khun Heng and Khun Haing are all members of the co-ruling Funcinpec Party. TV 9 is also Funcinpec-affiliated and belongs to the Khun Haing family.
